Terror on Campus

From The American Spectator, May 1, 2017, by Ben Stein

The nation’s universities have become no-go zones for people who do not hew to the one-party, anti-American, anti-police, anti-business attitudes of the violent brownshirts. Quiet, scholarly geniuses like Charles Murray and Heather Mac Donald — who dare to suggest that Americans should work for a living, who speak out in defense of the police — are shouted down, shoved, sometimes assaulted, and chased from campuses under guard. Ann Coulter — a long-time friend, staggeringly intelligent and amusing — is not permitted to speak at a University of California, Berkeley, campus, because she makes such witty, shining defenses of our great nation. This is a taxpayer-funded campus.

There’s an atmosphere of terror on campuses across the country. My beloved law school alma mater, mighty Yale, shamed itself recently by blackballing faculty who wanted to keep a sense of humor on the campus.

The formula is simple. Get a few nonwhite students to label a potential speaker a racist, whether or not there is the slightest evidence he or she is. Then bring in the looney left faculty, then bring in the women with fake charges of sexism, and soon you have a mighty avalanche against the speaker. The fascists call themselves anti-fascists, of course. But anyone with eyes and ears can see and hear who’s burning the books.

As far as I know, neither Hitler nor the Japanese ever planned to invade America. Certainly Vietnam didn’t. North Korea is a menace, but a poverty-stricken nation of 22 million is not going to subjugate us and take away our freedom.

They don’t have to. We’ve done it to ourselves on our campuses. Via our imbecile young people and their pawns and masters in the faculties, we have incinerated the First Amendment. We’ve made sure that our young learn only lies and subversive propaganda against America. Hitler had his storm troopers to silence the opposition. We have Black Lives Matter, which aims to emasculate the main force guarding black lives — the police — and which is always in the vanguard at closing down free speech. It’s a catastrophe for this country. It’s not what our young men and their parents fought for, died for, and wept for in The War. Look quick. We’re losing this war for freedom — and fast.

Are We A Sovereign Nation?

Derrick K. Watson, District of Hawaii Federal Judge, recently issued a 43-page opinion establishing a Temporary Restraining Order on President Trump’s second executive order restricting certain people entering the United States from six failed nations. The nations were selected by President Obama as representing high risks to the safety of American citizens. Of primary concern, is the inability to reliably identify the person’s birthplace, their criminal history, and their involvement in terrorism.
Since the 1400’s, the image of the blindfolded Lady Liberty has symbolized that true justice is be meted out objectively under the law, without favor of identity, money, or power. Judge Watson apparently used a crystal ball to see beyond the executive order to impute some intention, and ignored the law and the words.
Title 8 §1182 (f) of the U.S. Code states:
Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.

There are grave issues set up by Watson’s TRO.

1. President Trump is entirely inside the law. This is the same statute used by Jimmy Carter to round up and deport Iranians.

2. The President does not need a court or Congress to exercise this power under the statute.

3. The TRO’s did mention the statute, but only to say Trump “exceeded authority” However, no proof was presented.

4. The TRO’s cited statements made by Trump during the campaign, before the election, AS THOUGH THIS IS POLICY. The judges determined, without any evidence, that Trump’s EO was discriminatory to a certain religion.

5. The U.S. Constitution does not apply to non-citizens living in foreign countries.

6. If a District Judge can stay a lawful, Constitutional EO, how about if a President wanted to send in troops somewhere to protect U.S. interests and a judge didn’t like that?

Either the United State is a sovereign nation with effective borders and the rule of law, or we are a banana republic. When rogue, politicized judges base rulings on political ideology or imputed intentions, rather than on the facts and the law, we are little better than third-world. While defying the judge’s corrupt order is appealing, two wrongs do not make a right. If our President defies the court, as Jackson did Marshall and Obama did with oil in the Gulf of Mexico, it would not be helpful. Appointing judges who would behave as badly in the opposite political direction would be equally as deleterious. We are better than that. Perhaps the process of removing political-hack Federal judges should be eased to increase impartiality and accountability.

Only in Liberal America - Top Ten

I don’t like being made fun of. No one does. In this case, the fun is being poked at my country by our Canadian brothers. However, sad but true, they’re pretty much spot on. I am hoping, while humorous, this is a wake up call for our liberal-leaning citizens.

# 10 Only in America ... could politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $35,000 per plate Clinton campaign fund-raising event.

# 9 Only in America... could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when they have a black President, a black Attorney General and roughly 20% of the federal workforce is black while only 13% of the population is black, 40% of federal entitlements goes to black Americans - 3X the rate that go to whites, and 5X the rate that goes to Hispanics.

# 8 Only in America... could the two people most responsible for their tax code, Timothy Geithner (former head of the Treasury) and Charles Rangel (who once ran the Ways and Means Committee), BOTH turn out to be tax cheats, and they were in favor of higher taxes.

# 7 Only in America... can terrorists kill people in the name of Allah and our media react by worrying that Muslims might be effronted by any backlash.

# 6 Only in America... would they make people who want to legally become American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege, while they let anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just 'magically' become American citizens.

# 5 Only in America ... could the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country's Constitution be called EXTREMISTS.

# 4 Only in America ... could you need to present a driver's license to cash a check or buy alcohol or go on an airplane, but not to vote.

# 3 Only in America ... could people demand the government investigate whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. Oil company (Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike).

# 2 Only in America... could you collect more tax dollars from citizens than any nation in recorded history, still spend a Trillion dollars more than its income per year - $7 Million PER MINUTE - and complain that it doesn't have enough money.

# 1 Only in America.... could the rich people - the top 20% of earners who pay 86% of all income taxes - be accused of not paying their "fair share" by the half of earners who don't pay any income taxes at all.

Bonus: Only in America...  do you have to pass a drug test to get a pay check, yet any crack head can get their welfare check no questions asked.

Government & Media Connection

So, you've had this nagging suspicion that the news system is rigged, but you couldn't quite put your finger on it. Well, let me clear that up for you.

Ian Cameron, ABC news producer is married to Susan Rice, National Security Advisor

Chellie Pingree was married to Donald Sussman, owner of MaineToday Media thru 6/15

CBS President David Rhodes is the brother of Ben Rhodes, Obama’s Deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications

ABC News and Univision reporter Matthew Jaffe is married to Katie Hogan, Obama’s Deputy Press Secretary

CNN President Virginia Moseley is married to former Hillary Clinton’s Deputy Secretary, Tom Nides

ABC President Ben Sherwood is the brother of Obama’s Special Adviser Elizabeth Sherwood

And now you know why it is no surprise the media is in Obama's and Pingree's pocket. Think there might be a little bias in the news?

The War On Cops

Between stops last Friday, I caught a segment on radio which stunned me. It was chock full of those inconvenient things Progressives and Ms. Pingree can’t stand. They’re called facts.

The subject was Black Lives Matter, who scream at us that white police officers regularly kill blacks without basis or reason. Here are a few numbers from The War on Cops: How the New Attack on Law and Order Makes Everyone Less Safe, by Heather MacDonald. Did you know:

  • If all police shootings were to end tomorrow, both lethal and nonlethal and justified and unjustified, it would have a negligible effect on the astronomical rate at which blacks die by shootings.
  • Black and Hispanic officers are actually far more likely to shoot unarmed black suspects than are white officers.
  • Black officers in the New York Police Department were 3.3 times more likely to use their guns at shooting scenes than white officers.
  •  As a result of BLM, we have the “Ferguson Effect": local police are backing off of proactive policing, and crime is going up astronomically, as much as 90 percent in cities with large black populations.
  • 2 percent of all whites and Hispanics who die of homicide are killed by police officers.  Four percent of all blacks are killed by police officers.
  • 6,000 blacks die of homicide each year.  That is more than white and Hispanic homicide victims combined, even though blacks are just 13 percent of the nation's population.  And the reason they are dying of homicide at a rate six times higher than whites and Hispanics combined is because they commit homicide at a rate eight times higher than whites and Hispanics combined.
  • Over the last decade, black males made up 40 percent of all cop killers, even though they're six percent of the population.
  • What happened in Dallas is an extreme version of what officers are experiencing every day.  It's why we have seen a 17 percent increase in homicides last year in the 56 largest cities.
  • A police officer is 18-and-a-half times more likely to be killed by a black male than an unarmed black male is likely to be killed by a police officer.
  • A Chicago cop recently said he's never seen such hatred directed at officers in his 20 years in policing.  He said this is an almost undoable job now.
  • As a result of DOJ takeover of 30 local departments, policing takes the backseat to paper pushing. There's been no administration in recent history that is more anti-law enforcement than the Obama Administration.
  • Cops actually hesitate longer to decide to shoot armed black suspects than armed white suspects, and are less likely to shoot unarmed black suspects than unarmed white suspects.
  • Poverty has nothing to do with it. The 1960s was the nadir of violent crime, yet we had a very strong economy. The problem is the breakdown of the family that is leaving kids without any socialization and any decent role models.

It is extraordinary that some people believe that “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” is real. It never happened; it's is a lie, picked up and promoted by the liberal press. It is sad and misguided that President Obama has embraced Black Lives Matter. This past February, he welcomed two founders of Black Lives Matter to the White House and commemorated them and their efforts and praised them as being better organizers than he is. He said he is "confident that they are going to take America to new heights”. Just what heights, he didn’t explain.
